El evento constituye un reconocimiento global a la importancia de la odontología latinoamericana al que es necesario asistir. El congreso lleva el título de Salud Oral para Todos: retos locales, soluciones globales, tendrá lugar del 2 al 5 de septiembre de 2010. El mismo presentará a un gran elenco de la odontología mundial, entre ellos un gran contingente brasileño conformado entre muchos otros por Luiz Narciso Baratieri, Alexandre Vieira, Ricardo Guimarães Fischer, Antonio Inácio Ribeiro, Edella Puricelli, Jaime Cury, José Carlos Pereira y el arquitecto de la reforma del sistema de salud pública de Brasil a nivel odontológico, Gilberto Pucca Junior. Entre los conferencistas latinoamericanos figuran Franklin García-Godoy (USA-Dominicana), Gilberto Henostroza (Perú), José María Heredia (Dominicana), Fernando Goldberg (Argentina), Luis Felipe Jiménez (Chile), Raúl Riva (Uruguay) o Marcos Díaz Peralta (Dominicana). La FDI por su parte reforzará en varias conferencias su campaña para erradicar la caries y exigirá la ayuda solidaria para los colegas de Haití, entre otros tópicos. El Programa Científico examina a fondo los principales temas de la profesión, pero mantiene siempre el objetivo de responsabilidad social de la FDI, que se centra en promover la salud oral en todo el mundo. Los tópicos plantean debates actuales sobre las políticas de salud públicas y las prácticas privadas, las nuevas tendencias, perspectivas en la investigación, la docencia y la práctica clínica, al igual que sobre la integración de la odontología con otras profesiones de la salud. El Pelourinho, barrio del centro histórico de Salvador, se caracteriza por su colorita arquitectura colonial barroca. El nombre se refiere a las picotas (“pelourinhos” en portugués) donde en tiempos de la colonia se exponían las cabezas y cuerpos de los reos ajusticiados. todo el año, un gran crisol multicultural y una arquitectura y que ha sido reconocida por la UNESCO como Patrimonio de la Humanidad. Esta espectacular ciudad rebosa con actividades culturales durante todo el año, sabrosas comidas típicas, bailes y músicas. El programa social incluye también exóticos viajes a las Cataratas del Iguazú, al Amazonas o a la fantástica región del Pantanal, que son algunos de los lugares más maravillosos del mundo.
