The Opalescence PF gels have a sticky viscous consistency that prevents leaking from the tray. The “Sustained Release” formula ensures continued release of the active ingredient. Customized trays can be used for subsequent – regulary – touch-ups.
WHITEN Fabrication of a vacuum-formed custom tray A vacuum-formed custom tray, made in the laboratory from an impression, is the ideal delivery system for whitening with Opalescence PF and Opalescence Quick. Clean teeth thoroughly before taking an alginate impression. Pour impression with stone, then trim stone cast. Determine tooth shade before treatment using shade tabs or Opalescence Shade Guide Card. Document initial shade in the patient file. For reservoir spaces, apply LC Block-Out Resin onto labial surfaces of teeth to be whitened. This ensures that there is enough gel in the tray right where it is needed. Use Sof-Tray ultrasoft resin sheets for the fabrication of trays that are comfortable to wear. Heat sheet material until it clearly sags, then vacuum-form it on the cast. Leave tray on model until cool, then remove excess material with a utility cutter. Use scalloping scissors to precisely trim tray along the gingival margin. Tray should end short of gingival margin and must not overlap gingival tissue. Return tray to model. Check tray edges for gaping margins. Where necessary, heat margin with gentle flame and adapt with moist fingers. Finished custom tray, precisely trimmed, is now ready for try-in and final adaptation in the patient’s mouth. Instructions for the patient Load tray with Opalescence PF gel by expressing about 1/2 or 1/3 of gel in syringe. Clean teeth and place loaded tray on arch. Gently press tray edges against arch labially and palatally. Remove excess gel with soft toothbrush or clean finger. With tray in place, have mouth rinsed with water twice. Treatment time begins now. If significant sensitivity occurs, stop treatment and consult dentist. At the end of treatment brush teeth, and use soft toothbrush and cold water to clean tray. Store tray in Tray Case after use. This is also where it is stored after treatment is completed. At the beginning of treatment it is recommended to show the patient how to fill the tray with the bleaching gel, how to place the tray in the mouth, and how to remove the excess gel. A very efficient way of doing this is by starting the first application in the dental office, either with Opalescence Quick (and having the patient sit at the waiting room for half an hour) or with Opalescence PF (and sending the patient home and instructing when the tray should be removed). Patients can use the Opalescence bag to store syringes. Then schedule a follow-up appointment. The patient instructions illustrated above can also be found inside the Opalescence PF Kits. 12
