The Ultrapak cord is made of 100% cotton, knitted into thousands of tiny loops forming long interlocking chains. The unique cord design offers considerable advantages: thread ends don’t fray; cords are easy to pack and stay in place as desired; the knitted design makes the cord particularly absorbent; the special thread material exerts an elastic pressure on the gingival cuff and provides optimum tissue displacement in the sulcus. Because Ultrapak compresses upon packing, you can use a cord size that appears too large. Ultrapak cords are not impregnated. They can be soaked in your preferred hemostatic liquid. We recommend ViscoStat or Astringedent.

We recommend ViscoStat or Astringedent (see previous pages). Pre-preparation packing technique Open proximal contacts and place Ultrapak knitted cord soaked in ViscoStat or Astringedent. The knitted cord’s unique design facilitates easy packing and locks it into place. Preparation as usual. Extend margin subgingivally by cutting partway into knitted cord. A unique attribute of this cord is that it doesn’t entangle in the diamond bur! Microscopic compressible loops of Ultrapak knitted cord afford greater interthread space than a braided or twisted cord. Upon packing, loops compress which expresses hemostatic astringent to underlying tissues. As loops seek to open, a gentle, continuous outward force is exerted.
