“STEP-BY-STEP” QUICK GUIDE FOR PORCELAIN REPAIR
BOND/ETCH Repair of porcelain restorations using the Porcelain Repair Kit “STEP-BY-STEP” QUICK GUIDE FOR PORCELAIN REPAIR OpalDam EtchArrest Porcelain Etch Silane Peak LC Bond or PQ1 PermaFlo Dentin Opaquer Light cure barrier resin, protects teeth & tissue adjacent to the restoration while microabrading. Sodium bicarbonate gel, alkaline, protects tissue surfaces adjacent to the restoration from etchant. Also useful to neutralize etchants after use. Buffered, 9.5% hydrofluoric acid gel, yellow color, etches porcelain for repair or luting. Single component silane solution, creates enhanced bond between porcelain and composite. Peak LC Bond or PQ1 single-component bonding agent, light-curing, for composite restorations and repairs. Flowable opaque masking composite, light curing, blocks out exposed metal. Place rubber dam if necessary, and/or cover surrounding teeth/gingival tissue with OpalDam (using a Black Mini Tip) and light cure (20 seconds each, 5-10 seconds with VALO, Standard mode). Í Roughen ceramic and metal surfaces to be repaired using a microabrasion system (e.g. MicroEtcher) with 50 µm aluminum oxide particles. Alternatively (although less effective), use a diamond bur. Í If noble metal surfaces are exposed, paint with tinning material. Í With a Black Micro Tip place EtchArrest like a frame around broken porcelain surface. Í Apply Porcelain Etch (with an Inspiral Brush Tip) onto broken porcelain surface. Í Etch surface for 1 minute, then suction off gel and carefully rinse with water spray. We recommend blending EtchArrest into the etchant until the yellow color of the etchant is no longer identifiable. This will neutralize the etchant and eliminate the risk of acid splashes when removing the neutralized mix. Í Thoroughly air dry broken metal and porcelain surface. Í Apply Silane onto the broken porcelain surface (with a Black Mini Brush Tip). Wetting the metal is not a problem. Í Let evaporate for 1 minute, then blow with a gentle stream of air until completely dry. Í Apply Peak LC Bond or PQ1 (with an Inspiral Brush Tip) onto metal and ceramic fracture surface, air thin gently but thoroughly. Í Light cure Peak LC Bond or PQ1 for 10-20 seconds. Í Cover exposed metal with a thin layer of PermaFlo Dentin Opaquer using a Micro 20 ga Tip. Í Restore broken veneer by layering light cured composite (e.g. Amelogen Plus). Í Finish and polish repaired area. ! 58 This Quick Guide is only meant to provide an overview; it does not substitute the instructions provided with the individual products.
