This eliminates exposure to oxygen and prevents the formation of an oxygen inhibition layer on the surface. After use, DeOx is conveniently removed with water/air spray. Treatment with DeOx reduces the time and effort needed for subsequent polishing of composite surfaces. ® VISCOUS OXYGEN BARRIER SOLUTION Black Mini Tip The oxygen inhibition layer, which invariably forms on composite surfaces upon light polymerization, is initially desirable, as it strengthens the bond between layers of composite when a layering technique is used. ! However, it is not desired following definitive sculpting of the restoration surface, because it destroys delicate surface details. Moreover, it often necessitates lengthy polishing. A coat of DeOx prior to the final curing step keeps the oxygen out and thus ensures a complete cure. This considerably shortens the subsequent polishing procedure. DeOx is also very helpful when coated over cavo-surface margins. An oxygen inhibition layer on the luting resin surface would cause ditching and washout of luting resin at the margin.
